Originally, the plan was to derive the colour shades for the Volvelle from colour pigments made from the same minerals, containing the same elements and minerals that plants absorb from the soil as nutrients. No soil analysis had previously been carried out in the areas covered by the monitoring plots, and it is not possible to do so now, as the area is a protected site and the subject of research.
