What Happened to the Grasshoppers

As the human hearing range narrows with age, we no longer hear the chirping of grasshoppers. Similarly, poor species knowledge can reduce the biodiversity of our local environment.

Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) is an ancient introduction in Finland and an old medicinal plant, which was already cultivated by the Vikings. It was a popular herb, especially during the Enlightenment. The last observations in Seili, however, are from 2015. Apparently, its only habitat on the island was destroyed during the construction of a barbecue area for the guest harbour.
